A solar-powered LED light allows a woman in Senegal to charge her cellphone through a port in the lamp. Last month three scientists won the Nobel Prize in physics for their discoveries in household LED lighting. This discovery was monumental for not only developed towns, cities and countries across the globe but for more than a billion people who live in communities on the verge of development. Communities that do not have a reliable source of electricity such as this woman in Senegal are able to use LED lights along with solar panels to create a source of electricity.
