LED's are all the same, right?

One of the most popular points of discussion I have with Architects and Designers at the moment is “what makes some LED fittings better to spec than others” With the endless bombardment of product emails being sent to me and I am sure some of you, from all corners of the globe, including right here in Ontario, offering the best new LED luminaires, how do you decide what’s good and what’s not and then justify that choice to your clients?  Read More...

Everyone has the Right to Quality Light

Here at Gross Sales we have a company moto, “Everyone has the right to quality light”. It’s certainly a good hook line for company literature, but what does it really mean, what is “quality light”

We can look at it from a technical perspective and say that by using our lighting design service we can provide precise foot candle levels, perfect uniformity and optimum fixture placement, but is that really what quality light means. In part yes but it goes further than that. Sometimes we need to look at the bigger picture to build the correct lighting scheme for each application. The correct foot candle levels mean nothing if the colour temperature is unsuitable. The correct colour temperature means nothing if the Cri is too low, the correct Cri means nothing if the aesthetics are wrong for the client or specific application. All these factors need to be looked at and addressed if we are to provide our clients with the quality of light they deserve.

This is where Gross Sales is different from many other agencies. We look at all aspects of the project before deciding on the best lighting strategy. Simple things like ambient temperatures that can affect potential longevity and lumen output in industrial and outdoor applications, choosing the correct light source based on the needs of the individual space and understanding the client’s requirements and vision for their finished space be it commercial, retail or residential.

So, Quality Light, it means different things to different people and can vary based on the application but through thought, experience, planning and understanding we aim to provide the perfect solution to fit your needs.

HUBBELL BUILDING AUTOMATION LAUNCHES wiSCAPE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
HUBBELL BUILDING AUTOMATION LAUNCHES THE WORLD’S MOST ADVANCED, YET
EASY TO USE, STREET LIGHT CONTROL SYSTEM—wiSCAPE

Hubbell Lighting, a world leader in lighting innovation, announced a state-of-the-art wireless lighting control solution for new and existing street lights—Hubbell Building Automation’s (HBA) wiSCAPETM. Using a combination of universal street light modules and connecting gateways, wiSCAPETM creates a sophisticated and secure wireless control network for maximum energy savings and intuitive asset management.

Street lights make roads safer, public areas more inviting and city centers, businesses and homes more secure. That said, it also accounts for nearly 40 percent of a city’s electrical spending. As municipalities search for ways to become more energy efficient, leaders are looking to reduce overall energy use, light streets based on activity level, pay for actual energy consumed and minimize light pollution—all without raising electricity prices or taxes. HBA’s wiSCAPETM accomplishes each of these objectives and more. Just imagine if all of the nation’s 52.6 million street lights were automated, the estimated energy savings would provide enough electricity to power 1.5 million homes each year. 1

HBA’s wiSCAPETM fixture modules are installed directly in any street light and don’t require the running of new wires or relay panels, and the system works with a wide variety of lighting sources including: LED, induction, MH-HPS-LPS, incandescent, halogen, and plasma. Utilizing a secure peer-to-peer, self-organizing and self-healing mesh network infrastructure, wiSCAPETM allows users to manage, monitor and meter each individual streetlight with the click of a mouse. With dimming, scheduling and motion detection features, wiSCAPETM significantly reduces energy costs while minimizing light pollution.

Seamlessly melding the network together, HBA’s wiSCAPETM Gateway is used to combine up to 1,000 wiSCAPETM fixture modules into a single wireless network. Using the robust 2.4GHz ISM (Industrial, Scientific and Medical) radio band, the wiSCAPETM Gateway wireless control technology adapts easily to complex automation situations for quick, simple and economical commissioning and operation.

HBA wiSCAPETM modules are supported by wiSCAPE ViewTM—the graphical system management software platform that gives users the ability to remotely access multiple wiSCAPETM Gateways individually from one location. Equipped with a user-friendly graphical interface with map and satellite views, wiSCAPE ViewTM features real-time control status, alarms and metering capabilities including burned lamp notifications, over/under voltage, cycling, and low power factor. There is even a wiSCAPETM app for iPod®, iPad®, iPhone®, AndroidTM, and other Smartphone devices.

Outdoor LED Lighting

Lighting is a convenience of our modern world that we rarely think of in our everyday lives. We don’t think about the lighting above our heads in the office, the street lights that guide our way home or the lighting that creates a beautiful outdoor landscape in our neighbour's yard across the street. We see the effects of beautiful lighting every day, perhaps without realizing the thought and innovation that goes into each lighting product. Lighting technologies have been changing in recent years to LED lighting systems that provide greater efficiency, safety and versatility. LED lights are very popular due to some key advantages.  Compared to the standard bulb or halogen light, LED lights:

•             Are smaller in size
•             Consume less energy
•             Are durable and reliable
•             Last longer
•             Contain no harmful toxins
•             Do not emit dangerous UV rays
•             Are simply brighter
•             Produce more light per watt
•             Light up very quickly
